had an odd dream last night, sarah (snape), some other friend and I were flying jetstar over sydney harbour (except it looked nothing like sydney harbour and was infact a large body of water, an ocean even). the 2 flights before us had crashed, but we went up anyway. the next thing I know our 3 seater is plummetting towards the dark water, and we are strapped in. no plane, just our seat, people swimming everywhere, I manage to get out of the seatbelt, as does sarah and we swim to .. well there was no shore, but we swam to safety somehow and we were in a parking lot, it reminded me of a country landing strip/runway. the sun was so bright, and the cars and people were so colourful. I approach a yellow van, and the back doors are open, the boot doors? and there's surfer boys sitting there, offering me ciggarettes. there was a real emphasis on the cigarettes? I accepted and sarah said no. I don't remember much else, but I found my dream really odd. so I read up in a book we have at home called 'the meaning of dreams'.
in reference to smoking it says "lighting a cigarette in a dream is often a sign of anxiety, possibly about a social event or situation. if you are a smoker and trying to give up, however, or the people in your dream are reacting negatively to your cigarette, the dream is likely to be a reflection of your desire to smoke, or guilt about not being able to stop". so interesting.
in reference to the aeroplane; "an aeroplane indicates a swift journey, transporting you from one location to another. if you fear air travel, dreaming of being a passenger cdan be poiting you to some fear involved in travel. freud regarded flying as a sexual dream - one of wild abandonment and desire for freedom. if you feel that you have no control over theplane, then it may suggest that there are issues in your life's journey that need to be adressed. if you are at ease with flying in a plane, it may indicate that you wish to rise above the rest and find an escape. a pilot means that you are in control of where your life is heading. to dream of an aeroplane crash is not necessarily a prophetic dream telling you of some catastrophe to come, but it can be a dream that reveals your feeling of helplessness in the face of things that you seem to be beyond your control. as planes are assosciated with travelling over long distances, the crash may be telling you that there will be a major change in the distant future".
the crash: "interpretation of an accident dream varies according to the surroundings and circumstances of the dream. one interpretation views the dream as a premonition of an actual accident threatening the dreamer, so it may be a good idea to avoid any type of travel for a short while. accident dreans in a different setting such as at the sea, on land or in a car suggest disappointments in your love affairs and concerns in your personal and business ventures. they also warn of unexpected circumstances that can be accompanied by deep feelings of anxiety and insecurity. dreams about accidents may also be drawing attention to issues such as safety and the need to take extra care in your daily life".
the fact we landed in water; "water represents your emotions. whether its ocean, lake or river, the appearance of the water is significant in your dream. clear water gently lapping against the shore is usually a good sign, while stormy waves engulfing the swimmer is a sign of the dreamer being overwhelmed by emotion. a murky pool, or being stuck in mud is also a reflection of being emotionally stagnant in your waking life". "the ocean is a traditional symbol of both life and the emotions. watching or swimming in a stormy sea can denote an awareness of the powerful forces of spirituality or emotion within you. if the sea is calm and tranquil, it suggests that you have come to terms with an issue or feeling, and can expect easier times ahead. if you are underwater in your dream, it may be a sign of your desire to delve deeply into your emotions on a particular subject". 'like most dreams involving water, dreaming of immersion has significance in terms off our emotional lives. this dream may suggest that you feel as if you are 'drowning' in your emotions, to the extent of finding it hard to breathe. it also indicates that the dreamer is out of the depth emotionally in real life. take note of this dream, as it may be a subconscious message to find a comfortable level of emotional expression". "swimming upstream with your head above water denotes success and confidence. personal survival is important to you and swimming to your destination means that you will achieve your goals. swimming against the tide idicates you will meet with an opposing force or move against the general consensus. swimming with others suggests that you have things in commong with others - you are all swimming in the same pond. it indicates that you feel accepted at social level. swimming underwater suggests that going deep within yourself over some issue, particularly an emotional one, in order to see the whole picture. diving into water stands for 'taking a plunge' or a risk. clear water indicates that you are feeling positive, while muddy water could be a reflection of your gloomy state of mind. if you are swimming underwater and feel as if it is a struggle or even scary, then you are not ready to face the deep emotional issues surrounding you. a swimming pool represents our innermost thoughts and feelings. these feelings are more contained than those in dreams of a lake or the sea".
